An alternative to Meetup
If you run a group on Meetup and wonder whether there is a better home for it, this page sets out how Group Squirrel differs - including what you would give up by moving.
How it differs
- What you pay
- Meetup charges organisers a subscription to run a group. Here, what you pay depends on the plan your group needs, and every plan is set out below.
- Your members
- Bring the members you already have by importing your list. Each of them gets a clear page for your group with your events on it, and sees only what your group chooses to share.
- Your group's privacy
- You decide who can see your events and venues, who can respond, who can join and who can see member information - from anyone at all to your active members only.
- Your organisers
- Give each person who helps run the group the access their role needs, and keep sensitive information restricted to the people who need it.
What it costs

What you would give up
Meetup has a large audience of people browsing for groups, and some members find groups that way. Group Squirrel has a group directory of its own, but it is not that audience. If your group relies on new people finding it on Meetup, you can leave your Meetup group in place, pointing to your new home, while your members move across.
